The competition has been designed for residents at all supported living and retirement living services, whether they have access to a large communal garden or allotment; have their own small garden, balcony or courtyard, anyone could enter one or both categories in the competition. This year’s competition focuses on two themes ‘Welcoming Nature’ and ‘Seasonal Pride’.

Welcoming Nature

Transform your garden or window pots and boxes to welcome all that nature has to offer. Create a garden or growing space with colourful flowers to attract bees, birds and butterflies. Most of us would like more wildlife to visit our gardens, and making your outdoor space attractive to birds, mammals and insects needn't involve a lot of work, but can be very therapeutic and good for the environment.

Seasonal Pride

Whether you have a small patio area, or a large garden you can produce herbs, grow vegetables and/or fruit from scratch, nurture them, and watch them grow. See if you can become more self-sufficient and also cut your grocery spend.

If you decide to turn your home-grown produce into a delicious tasty meal, you’re sure to stand a better chance of a prize.

Winners announced via email to managers and scheme mailboxes, and on this page.

Everyone who enters will receive a certificate of recognition for participating in the competition.

In each category, there will be one winner and three runners up. The winners will each receive a £250 gift card, and the runners up will each receive a £100 gift call. All winners and runners up will also receive a certificate and a trophy.

The gift card prizes can be chosen from the following selection:

  • The Horticultural Trades Association, which can be spent at garden centres and nurseries across the country
  • B&Q, which can be spent nationwide at all stores on home, DIY and garden supplies
  • A supermarket of your choice, such as Tesco, Sainsbury, Morrisons or Asda.

Your garden, pots, window boxes or vegetable patches will be judged by public vote on this website between Monday 19 and Monday 26 of July.

It will be important to show the transformation, so that voters can see how your garden or vegetable patch has improved. Make sure you upload your very best ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures, to showcase all your hard work!

If you want to upload photos which show you or anyone else alongside your handiwork, please make sure you complete the photo consent form (PDF 669KB) and upload it with your entry.
