Life at Whitley Court

At Whitley Court, you choose the lifestyle that suits you.

In the morning, a local shop can deliver your daily milk or newspaper, and during the day we’ll call you to check that you’re okay. After breakfast in your apartment or the restaurant, you might choose to meet friends or take part in one of our regular activities. At lunchtime, the restaurant serves delicious hot meals that you can enjoy with family and friends, or you may wish to prepare lunch yourself in your apartment.

If you fancy a change of scenery, Paignton Zoo is only a short walk away, or you may want to catch a bus into Paignton town centre, with its beach, shops and restaurants. Brixham, Torquay and Totnes are also nearby.

In the afternoon, you could join us for one of our regular social events, take part in a game of pool or bingo, or perhaps visit our onsite hairdressing salon for a bit of pampering. By evening you may want to take it easy after all the activity! If not, you can always join friends to watch TV, or for a chat, a game of cards or a mutual hobby.

It is very enjoyable living here. It's made a difference to my life. Staff are friendly, nice and caring and there is always somebody to speak to if I need.

Taste restaurant

Our Taste restaurant is open to residents and members of the public from 8.30am – 2.30pm seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and snacks. If you live nearby, enjoy a meal out in our restaurant with your family and friends. We regularly have special menus to celebrate special occasions throughout the year and our Taste restaurant has a 5* hygiene rating from the Food Standards Agency.

Activities and events

We hold regular social activities, offering you a chance to meet new people and be part of our friendly community. Activities include:

  • Quizzes, bingo and games
  • Exercise classes
  • Arts and crafts
  • Gardening
  • A monthly lunch club with Age UK Torbay

Whitley Court bedroom

You’ll feel right at home in your apartment. It has everything you need and is unfurnished so you can make it your own. Features include:

  • Open plan lounge and kitchen
  • One double bedroom, or one double and one single bedroom
  • Fitted kitchen with fridge-freezer, washer-dryer, oven and hob
  • Level-access shower room
  • Emergency alert system featuring intercom, pull cord and pendant or wrist alarms

Am I eligible?

To be eligible to live at Whitley Court, you must:

  • Be aged 55 or over, or have long-term care needs
  • Reside in the local area
  • Have your care and support needs assessed and approved by Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust

To be eligible for a leasehold property, you must be aged 55 or over, and reside in, or have a family connection to, the local area.

You will also need to show your passport or other form of identification, to prove you are eligible to rent in the UK. We aim to offer a lively atmosphere and mixed community of people who have a range of care needs. Whitley Court may not be suitable if you require a substantial amount of regular nursing care.

How do I apply?

  1. Contact us for an application form, or contact Torbay Council’s adult social care team.
  2. We’ll arrange for you to visit and meet us.
  3. Once your application has been approved by Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, we may assess if you would benefit from care and support services, and our care provider, Care Support Torbay, may arrange to visit you at home to discuss your needs. For your care to be funded by Torbay Council, you must have had your needs assessed and approved by the adult social care team.
