With many of Sanctuary Retirement Living’s older and at-risk residents choosing to follow Government guidelines and socially isolate in their apartments, they have found it difficult to access local supermarkets and buy groceries in a safe way.

The onsite Taste restaurants available at many services have also been closed for sit-down meals during the pandemic, meaning that residents are currently unable to socialise and chat over a hot meal, as they normally would.

In an approach adopted by Sanctuary Retirement Living schemes across the country, staff have begun operating a ‘Tick and Collect’ service, allowing residents to order essential groceries such as bread, milk and cereals, as well as hot meals, directly though staff using a simple tick list.

Orders are then delivered to residents’ front doors, enabling them to stay safe in their apartments and avoid the need to visit busy supermarkets.

Liz Jones, registered manager at Jazz Court retirement service in Scarborough, said, “At Sanctuary Retirement Living, residents’ health and wellbeing is our absolute top priority. Our new Tick and Collect service is a great way for us to help residents stay safe and well, enjoy a hot meal and keep their cupboards topped up with essentials.”

Karl Evans, Head of Hospitality for Sanctuary Retirement Living, said, “We are so pleased with the successful roll-out of our Tick and Collect service across our retirement communities. We hope that it provides reassurance to both residents and their loved ones.”
