Retirement living residents full of joie de vivre

23 September 2021

Residents at a Cheltenham retirement living service headed to the continent from the comfort of home with a French-themed week.

Residents and staff at Middleton House enjoy french week

The team at Sanctuary Retirement Living’s Middleton House in Leckhampton, arranged different activities throughout their special French Week from authentic games of boules, to arts and crafts and an afternoon quiz accompanied by a cheese board.

Residents also enjoyed an appetising menu of classic dishes à la française prepared by the on-site Taste restaurant including a three-course meal, continental breakfast and hot chocolate. There was also yet more cheese on offer at a cheese and wine night followed by a big screen showing of the classic romantic comedy film, Gigi.

Meanwhile, some of the staff completed their own mini Tour de France on a loaned exercise bike, taking in the sights of Paris over five days, clocking up more than 200 miles and raising over £160 for the residents’ fund.

Wellbeing & Inclusion Assistant at Middleton House, Katie Gannon, said; “The week certainly went down well with everyone including our visitors. We’ve had so many residents say how much they enjoyed it. So much so, that the wine and cheese evening is set to become a regular event. For now though, it’s au revoir to French week and ‘Ciao!’ to the next stop on our travels - Italy.”

Located in a desirable area of Cheltenham, Middleton House provides one or two bedroom apartments and communal facilities for over 55s. Designed to offer comfort, independence and peace of mind, Middleton House has everything needed to enjoy a happy, fulfilling retirement.

Middleton House is home to former footballer and Olympian, Ron, who had a hand in kickstarting the career of Sir Alex Ferguson. Read his story to find out more about life with Sanctuary Retirement Living or read our latest news.
