13 May 2020

Residents and staff at Wimborne House retirement living service in Gravesend marked the 75th anniversary of VE Day with lots of decorations and a socially-distanced afternoon tea.

They also enjoyed a display showcasing a selection of World War II memorabilia, which was put together by staff. Items on display included photographs, gas masks, a selection of medals, and models of aircraft and vehicles from the era. They were donated to the service by family members, in memory of Bob Grimes, a former resident who had collected the items over many years, and who recently passed away.

Wellbeing and Inclusion Assistant Charlotte Smith said: ‘Although the coronavirus pandemic meant that we weren’t able to have the big VE Day celebrations we’d originally planned for, we made sure that this did not stop us from celebrating the day in style.’
