4 February 2020

Staff and residents from Sanctuary Retirement Living’s Rose Manor in Telford are celebrating after their service received a ‘Good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), following a recent inspection.

Rose Manor staff and residents celebrate CQC

The retirement service was rated ‘Good’ in each of the five key areas – safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership – leading to a ‘Good’ rating overall.

The service has one and two-bedroom retirement apartments for over-55s, with communal facilities including an onsite restaurant, Taste. Staff provide a range of optional care, support and domestic services to enable residents to live as independently as possible. There is also a dedicated team which focuses on supporting residents’ emotional and physical wellbeing.

Rose Manor staff were praised for providing safe and effective care and support, and for the “positive and empowering” relationships they had developed with residents. A resident said: “I don't know what I would do without them. They encourage me to get up every day and keep doing things. They generally just keep me going.”

The report noted that residents were treated with respect and that staff were always kind to them. It also described how staff spoke about residents with “fondness, compassion and genuine positive regard”. Residents told the inspector that they were comfortable in the presence of staff, and both residents and their relatives described staff as “Really nice”, “Kind” and “Lovely”.

One resident told the CQC inspector that they had initially felt apprehensive about using a piece of mobility equipment, but the skill and expertise of the onsite team made them feel supported: “Staff were so competent and confident it reassured me.”

Alison Randall, registered retirement living manager at Rose Manor, said: “All the staff at Rose Manor are very proud of the findings in the CQC’s report and the overall ‘Good’ rating. I’d like to thank the staff members and residents who took part in the inspection – this report reflects our kind and caring approach to residents’ wellbeing, and our desire to help residents live as independently as possible.”
