MP visits Sanctuary services in Torbay

20 December 2017

Torbay MP Kevin Foster recently visited residents at an retirement living scheme run by Sanctuary Group in Torquay.

Mr Foster visited Sanctuary’s Dunboyne Court Retirement Living scheme, where he heard about the service and benefits of living there from residents and members of staff.

He was given a tour of the purpose-built 45-flat scheme to see the communal facilities available, including a restaurant, on-site hairdressing salon and roof terrace with sun lounge area.

The MP met with residents and also took part in a chair-based exercise session. Residents originally began having the chair-based exercise sessions as part of Sanctuary’s Love Sport programme and they enjoyed it so much they have carried on with them now the programme has concluded.

During his visit, Mr Foster also met with Sanctuary’s Torbay Domestic Abuse Service (TDAS), which provides support for women, men and children who need advice and protection from domestic abuse.

TDAS operates both an outreach support service and a women’s refuge, which provides safe accommodation for women and families to live independently.

Sanctuary manages over 3,200 homes across Torbay, including general needs housing, shared ownership, retirement living and housing for older people.

Mr Foster said: “I thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone at Dunboyne Court and seeing first-hand how the scheme ensures residents retain their independence, while offering any support they may need.

“It was also very interesting to hear about Sanctuary’s work and services in the local community and the support offered to those escaping from abusive relationships.”
