Moreton Court residents mark Mental Health Awareness Week

16 May 2017

Residents at a Bideford retirement living scheme have been learning the importance of having people around them for good mental wellbeing as part of Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW).

Staff at Sanctuary’s Moreton Court retirement living scheme, on Birdwood Crescent, organised a whole host of activities designed to bring everyone together during MHAW, which ran from Monday 8 to Sunday 14 May.

The activities comprised a movie and popcorn afternoon, a day of playing board games, including the North Devon version of Monopoly, a crafts afternoon with creative drawing and painting, and a game of bingo with prizes up for grabs.

The events were organised to tie into the national awareness week’s theme of ‘Surviving vs Thriving’, and to demonstrate how social interaction can boost a person’s mental health.

Kerry Walton, scheme service manager, said: “Retirement living schemes like Moreton Court not only provide accommodation and personalised care but offer residents a community to be a part of. For this reason, events such as this are essential in bringing people together, getting them talking and finding new and entertaining things for them to do.”
