Hillyard House exterior

Diana Dennis

Diana Dennis, 67, has made lots of friends since she moved to Sanctuary Retirement Living’s Hillyard House in 2019.

Moving into an apartment at Hillyard House was an ideal solution for Diana, as she enjoys belonging to a welcoming community and knowing that someone is always around to keep her company or have a chat.

Diana was referred to the retirement community by the adult social care team at Lambeth Council, as she needed regular care and support. She felt that living at Hillyard House would enable her to continue to live as independently as possible and give her the opportunity to meet lots of new people and make friends.

Since moving in, Diana has been able to remain independent in her own home, with easy access to onsite and local amenities. She wears a pendant alarm which provides the added reassurance that the kind and caring staff are there when she needs them, and she is also free to drop into the office and have a chat.

Diana likes spending time with her sister Shirley who she lives with, and her friend Valerie. She enjoys pampering trips to the on-site hair salon and likes to take part in the regular activities, including arts and crafts, movie mornings and chairobics, which are organised by the Wellbeing & Inclusion team. Her carer also travels from nearby Lambeth to help her with food shopping.

She said: “I was a bit anxious when I first moved here, but I’m very comfortable here now and think it’s excellent. I like the fact that there are people of different ages who live here.”

Located in a residential area of Brixton, in South West London, Hillyard House provides apartments and communal facilities for over 55s.
