Supporting residents to have choice and control over their lives is what makes Donna Shepperson proud to work in the supported housing sector.

Donna is based at Sanctuary Retirement Living’s Jubilee Court, in March, Cambridgeshire, where she has worked as a care and support assistant since May 2018.

The service offers apartments and communal facilities for people aged 60 and over.

Donna has always felt that caring is a vocation for her. She commented: “Since the age of 14, when I started washing up in the kitchen of a residential home, or sat chatting with residents, I have absolutely loved making a difference to others’ lives.”

Donna finds the experience of working in care and supported housing a very rewarding job. She said: “Lots of the people I care for have worked hard for all of their lives, so by helping them to feel happy and secure I really feel as though I’m giving something back.

“When I see a smile on a resident’s face I know I’ve done my job.”
