Resident story: Julie Whybrew

10 January 2019

Creativity is very important to Sanctuary Retirement Living resident Julie Whybrew, and living at Greenwich Gardens has prompted her to explore her love of poetry and writing.

Julie has lived at the Derby-based service since 2013 and has been getting involved with a local project which has seen her poems showcased in communal areas.

Staff at the service have assisted Julie to pursue her creative interests and have been very supportive. She said: “I never feel lonely knowing I have the staff to talk to.”

Julie moved into the service with her late husband John, who needed support with daily life due to his disabilities. At Greenwich Gardens, Julie has her own apartment and her own space, and likes that she can get involved with life at the service as much as she wishes.

She commented: “Since moving into Greenwich Gardens I have lots more independence. I can get out more and feel very free and happy here.”
