Resident Story: Jack Clarke

11 February 2020

“Growing old? Never heard of it!” That’s the attitude of 100-year-old resident Jack Clarke, who lives at Sanctuary Retirement Living’s Dunboyne Court in Torquay.

Sanctuary Retirement Living residents Jack and Audre Clarke

Jack truly gives back to the community, both at Dunboyne Court and across the wider Bay area. He pays visits to other residents who may be lonely and makes cushions and scrapbooks for members of the local community.

An accomplished pianist and saxophonist, Jack came to Dunboyne Court in 2011 with his wife Audre, with the couple having been together for 67 years.

Jack served in the army during World War 2, before playing semi-professionally in a band. Jack has won awards for his musical talents and has played in front of royalty, dignitaries, TV stars and even The Wombles! After meeting and marrying Audre, the couple went through some tough times together and moved to Plymouth to make a fresh start.

They fell in love with the city and decided to stay in the south west.

Today, Jack and Audre live in their own apartment at Dunboyne Court and feel they’re really part of the community at the service. They’re happy living independently, knowing that they’ve got support on hand and friends nearby.
